Will this run Guild Wars?
Hi. I've been using POS computers all my lifetime, and its been horrible. I guess I'm not the kind of person that is updated on the latest technologies, and able to afford the bells and whistle computers that many people have. I think its time for a change, so I've decided to have a friend of mine, who is a computer expert, build me a new computer. These are the specs. My question is: Will this run Guild Wars on at least a playable and enjoying frame rate?
AMD 64 4000+
BFG Tech Geforce 7800GTX Video Card
2 GB ram
2x Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB Hard Drive
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS GAMER Limited Edition
MSI K8N Neo4/SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
Thermaltake SHARK VA7000BWA Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case
550W Power Supply
NEC ND-3540A DVD/CD burner

You are asking a serious question?
I think you can answer that yourself.

Um, the listed hardware is pretty close to top-of-the-line for a PC-desktop. I think this qualifies as a fat "yes."
I'm stewing over the Dell XPS Gen2 as my next GW machine... $2500 loaded, with a GF6800-Ultra video card in a laptop!

Why in the blue hell would you need a 7800 gtx? Get like a 6600 or a 6800 and save some cash. Otherwise of course it will run guild wars perfectly....

Remember one thing! Not everyone Wants to overclock. It is not always the best choice. If you have the money then get a fast STABLE computer. His system looks sweet as it is. I agree with D.E.V.i.A.N.C.E on getting a Raid set-up. My friend just bought a Dim 9100. He had to get a Dim 9100 to get the "deal" on the 24" widescreen LCD display. (That display is down right coool. Guild Wars in widescreen is beautiful) So he figured he would get a half way decent new computer for a change and got the Raid 250 meg Hard Drives plus a 160 meg third Hard Drive for Data back up. Also he got the Dual Core intel chip because he does allot of muti-tasking for his network security job. He is the "guy" that his company sends all over the U.S. to clients to fix and secure their networks. He also does presentations for government officials like the FBI,DEA,CIA, Local cops, etc on how to lock up their networks from attacks.
Getting a Geforce 7800 vid card is a nice touch. Why not? They are coming down in price. 2GBs of Ram is the best way to go now a days also. 1Gb is the bare minimum for a system in my opinion. Since I got 2GBs of ram for my own little box, my system got allot more "snappier" in response time.
So I see this system of his enhancing his computer life for years to come.

I don't know much about computers but when I hear you guys talk about what you consider MINUMUM I finally get to realize how crappy my com is.
As I have a laptop I can't upgrade my video card, so I'm stuck with a 6800 ADI (or something, don't remember the names) with, at the moment, 264KBs og RAM.
The RAM's getting upgraded but presumably not to anything even CLOSE to 1 GB.
Gee, it's incredible what we can get nowadays... But then again, everything is cheaper in America then in Denmark. Just have to save my cash I guess!
And congratz on the new com. I think you two will get along fine.

Hey I have a sweet system too!
Dimension 5100
3.4Ghz 800FSB HT 650 chip Set w/2meg cache
2GB Ram PC-4200
X800XL 256meg PCIe Vid Card
Audigy2Z Sound Card
DVD/Rom Player 16X
DVD/RW -/+ Dual Layer burner 16X
80Gb SATA HD
160GB SATA HD
Floppy Drive
P991 19" Monitor
Not an Alienware or anything like that, but it is STABLE and fast! Good for at least 2 years. Later on I will upgrade the PSU and get even a better Vid Card. I like the new cases by Dell. Real quiet system even with the Vid Card.
So there I GLOATED ..hehehhe

Finally got my new rig set up, and its great!
Currently running guild wars on 1280x1024 resolution, with all settings maxed. Game runs perfect at a constant 76fps (is that the cap?). In ascalon city district 1, the frame rates drop to 55 or 60 fps from time to time. loving it, everything is smooth.

Man, you don't even know what a good computer is. Try this:
p-3 933
384 MB Ram (cause I'm too cheap to get 256Mb sticks)
12 GB HD
15" walmart special monitor
headphones
...and I'm still able to whoop some butt!
